Pooja Dodd, formerly a partner at LexOrbis, has launched her own intellectual property boutique, Dodd & Co.

Speaking about her decision to go solo, Dodd said there was “a more targeted demand for bespoke legal services” and she found it difficult to do justice to her clients’ requirements in a traditional firm setting. “Working in a traditional environment (legally speaking) and servicing clients in … the ‘startup era’ can be both stifling and limiting,” she said.

Dodd has wide ranging intellectual property experience, having worked on transactional IP, IP litigation, anti-counterfeiting and prosecution. While her firm will focus largely on IP, it will not be limited to this area. “At Dodd & Co we are smart, agile and knowledgeable in the complete area of commercial law,” she said. “We have to be! We intend to service the creative industry end-to-end.”

Prior to LexOrbis, Dodd worked for over three years at IP Gurus, a firm she set up after she left the now separated FoxMandal Little. She also worked at The Rights Lawyers in Dubai and for a year in the US at start of her career.

“Traditionally, law practices have been defined by the expertise of the lawyers,” Dodd told India Business Law Journal. “I visualize [our firm] more as a solutions-based, client-need-dependent, non-traditional, Google-like friendly business place where we talk the language that the clients easily understand, offer practical solutions, are creative ‘out-of-the-box’ thinkers that work with can-do attitudes and smiles. Today’s companies need to move fast, change rapidly with the market demands and keep costs down.”

Dodd & Co has four full-time lawyers, including two who moved with Dodd from LexOrbis, and some part-time associate lawyers. “We are small but sharp,” said Dodd. “Recruiting more lawyers is on the cards but will be tied to the market response.”
