Bazul LLC Rebrand

Singapore-based Oon & Bazul has rebranded to Bazul LLC, completing a two-year transformation from a full-service practice to a disputes-only firm.

Managing partner Bazul Ashhab said the rebranding followed a deliberate reassessment of the firm’s identity and strategy.

“Two years ago, we asked a harder question than how to grow: we asked what the firm truly is. The answer was already in the works. Clients came to us when the stakes were existential and those matters were disputes,” he told Asia Business Law Journal.

“So, we made the decision to become a disputes-only firm. We exited tax and mergers and acquisitions, and rebuilt every part of the practice around complex commercial litigation, international arbitration, fraud and asset recovery, much of it cross-border. Contrary to what one might expect from narrowing our focus, revenue grew and the scale of the instructions grew with it.”

The change in name does not alter the firm’s outlook and strategic direction.

“The direction does not change; the name reflects it. Our ambition is to become the largest independent disputes-only practice in Asia, and the firm clients turn to when the outcome cannot be left to chance. The work we are now instructed on is bet-the-company disputes, with claims measured in the billions and frequently spanning several jurisdictions, for trading houses, shipowners, financial institutions and private principals across Singapore, India, the Middle East and China,” Ashhab said.

“We serve that work from Singapore deliberately. It is the region’s neutral seat for disputes, and our independence from transactional practice means we can act against the banks, funds and corporates that full-service firms cannot afford to sue.”
