Dear Editor,

We read with great interest the Intelligence report on Indian law firms and thank you for carrying our views on the still evolving foreign exchange regulations. The article indeed makes for some insightful reading, and provides an interesting gamut of views from various players within the industry and their take on the new regulatory frameworks and the potential impact of these on the law firm landscape. Critical practice areas such as competition and proposed changes to direct taxation laws have kept lawyers busy in preparation for the new regimes.

We also increasingly see activity in the private equity space across a wide array of sectors as well as a lot of strategic acquisitions being planned by some of the domestic conglomerates, which is keeping M&A lawyers occupied. High-growth areas such as infrastructure have kept firms busy, both domestically as well as internationally, with many players looking to make headway in overseas markets or to safeguard their future sourcing of materials.

It was also interesting to note the mixed views that the industry players have taken on the recent growth of independent and smaller firms. Clearly, firms across all levels are gearing up for an increasingly competitive business environment as is evident from the recognition being given to marketing acumen and strategies.

We do hope that you continue with such fine coverage and look forward to many more interesting reads.
