Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has advised KKR on its acquisition of Japanese beauty and lifestyle brand platform Ci Flavors for an undisclosed amount.

The global law firm said KKR would acquire Ci Flavors from its existing shareholders, including founder Yusaku Horiuchi, L Catterton, eBeauty Group and Yanagi Capital Partners.

Horiuchi and Ci Flavors’ representative director and CEO Yoshiaki Okura will invest alongside KKR in the deal.

The Simpson Thacher team comprised partners Jonathan Stradling, Makiko Harunari, head of the Asia banking and credit practice, Étienne Renaudeau and George Wang, who co-leads the firm’s international trade regulatory practice and the Asia litigation practice.

Senior counsel Meredith Jones, counsel Atsushi Usui and associates Daisuke Ueta, Cathleen Ye, Minjung Park, Zhendong Xu, Mark Watson, Giovanna De Cristofaro, Max Toubiana, Shuhao Fan and Xue Feng also worked on the transaction.

A joint statement by KKR, Ci Flavors and L Catterton said the acquisition formed part of KKR’s Asia-Pacific private equity strategy and would build on its track record of investing in consumer businesses globally.
