Sri Mariana Hj Yahya, a former judge of the Court of Appeal of Malaysia, has been appointed as a partner at Halim Hong & Quek (HHQ).
She brings more than 40 years of experience and will focus on appellate advocacy, strategic legal advisory, complex litigation, judicial review, public law and dispute resolution. She will also support the firm’s professional, corporate social responsibility and community initiatives.
“Dato’ Sri Mariana’s appointment is significant to HHQ not only because of the depth of experience she brings from her distinguished judicial career, including her service as a judge of the Court of Appeal, but also because of the contribution we hope to make together to the wider community,” HHQ managing partner Quek Ngee Meng told Asia Business Law Journal.
“A key mandate that Dato’ Sri Mariana will spearhead at HHQ is the development of a structured pro bono legal aid programme aimed at improving access to justice for individuals and communities who may not otherwise have the means to obtain legal assistance.”
Yahya was appointed judicial commissioner of the High Court in 2007 and became a judge of the High Court of Malaya in 2010. She served on the Court of Appeal from 2021 to 2025.
