Cooley has bolstered the talent at its Beijing office with the addition of capital markets partner Xu Yilin.
Xu was a former Beijing-based partner at Skadden’s corporate group. He specialises in advising tech and life sciences companies on US and Hong Kong IPOs, M&A, and private equity investments.
In 2024, Xu, along with other lawyers from #Skadden#, advised Midea Group on its HKD31 billion listing on the HKEX. In the same year, #Skadden# announced the closure of its Shanghai office due to a slow market.
As 2025 has just begun, several international law firms have kickstarted the year with the expansion of their China practice. Asia Business Law Journal, a sister publication of China Business Law Journal, reported that former Herbert Smith Freehills partner Michelle Li had joined Rajah & Tann’s Shenzhen office, while Ashurst had appointed secondary market specialist James Ford as a partner at its Hong Kong branch.
