As supporters of India’s Congress party revelled in the news of its decisive victory, FoxMandal Little, one of the country’s largest law firms, celebrated the election of three of its lawyers to the Lok Sabha, India’s directly elected lower house of parliament.
Agatha Sangma, Hamdullah Sayeed and Mausam Noor have all practised in FoxMandal’s litigation department for over five years. Noor and Sayeed both stood on behalf of the Indian National Congress party, the largest party in the victorious United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition. Sangma, meanwhile, contested the election for the Nationalist Congress Party, another UPA member.
“We celebrate the historic victory of these young and dynamic colleagues,” the firm said in a press release. “The three elected are the new generation’s educated leaders who will shine like the sun in Indian political development.”

All three lawyers have benefited from familial parliamentary connections. Sayeed is the son of the late Haji PM Sayeed, a former power minister who is remembered as the modern architect of the remote Lakshadweep islands. Sangma is the daughter of former Lok Sabha speaker PA Sangma, while Noor is the daughter of long-time member of the legislative assembly Ruby Noor, and a niece of the late prominent politician and senior leader of the Indian National Congress, Ghani Khan Choudhury.
Commenting on the appointments, Som Mandal, the managing partner of FoxMandal Little, said: “We are very proud that our firm’s young and well-educated lawyers have entered Indian politics to bring about the changes India needs. These youthful leaders can fluently nurture the demands of a democratic and new age India in parliament.
“We wish them all the very best in taking our country to greater heights.”
