A delegation from Gujarat travelled to the UK in September to seek business partners for infrastructure and renewable energy projects. Led by Guruprasad Mohapatra, managing director at Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals, the delegation’s primary goal was to encourage investment from the UK in the western Indian state.

“The state has world class infrastructure and would like to invite investments in sectors like petrochemicals, chemicals, drugs, pharmaceuticals, minerals, ceramics, gems and jewellery, textiles, autos and engineering, IT, power and ports,” said Mohapatra.
Patricia Hewitt, chair of the UK India Business Council welcomed the delegation and said, “For 13 years from 1997, I was one of the members of parliament for Leicester, which has very strong links with Gujarat. The business community there was superb and I had the great pleasure of visiting Ahmadabad and seeing just how dynamic Gujarat is.”
The trip came close on the heels of British Prime Minister David Cameron’s visit to India in July. Cameron, along with a delegation of senior politicians, business leaders, academics and the senior partner of a leading magic circle law firm, travelled to India to boost trade and investment between the two countries in a bid to create more jobs and revitalize his nation’s lacklustre economy.
