An Indian IP lawyer who gained international recognition for representing Harry Potter author JK Rowling in a copyright case, has been appointed as copyright head at Indian law firm FoxMandal Little.
Rahul Beruar joined FoxMandal after six years as a partner with Akash Chittranshi & Associates. He has wide experience in the field of copyright enforcement, trademark prosecution, intellectual property rights-related litigation, and drafting and reviewing of agreements.
FoxMandal managing partner Som Mandal welcomed Beruar, saying: “We are thrilled to have Rahul join our team. His depth of experience and energy is a welcome addition and we look forward to him getting involved in the firm and being a strong representative of our copyright team.”

Apart from JK Rowling, Beruar’s high-profile clients have included Warner Brothers, Bloomsbury, Cambridge University Press, Mahindra & Mahindra, the Pearson Education and McGraw-Hill publishing companies.
Commenting on his new appointment, Beruar said, “Copyright enforcement is the need of the time, as India has to have a viable intellectual property regime to sustain its growth. FoxMandal Little … is in an ideal position to meet the challenges of enforcement of copyrights on an all-India basis.”
Beruar’s move follows the untimely death of Akash Chittranshi, founding partner of his former firm, Akash Chittranshi & Associates (see Sad farewell to ‘brilliant’ IP lawyer).
