Dear Editor,

I find that with every issue of India Business Law Journal there is a marked improvement in the content.

As always, I found the news section in your October issue, particularly the news about movement of lawyers, very interesting and informative. The article on the peculiarities of doing business in India (Culture shock) was also very interesting.

The writer very rightly highlights the leisurely approach to work, and the yes culture. I think this can form the basis of a more elaborate discussion in a future issue of the magazine.

Your leader appropriately highlights the disturbing news about lawyers in Tamil Nadu protesting a Madras High Court order about the use of crash helmets. The high court has seen some ugly scenes and I am very disappointed and distressed to see this happening.

Your article on forum shopping (Shopping for justice) highlights another malaise. I think this is a blot on India’s system of administration of justice. Yet Rajinder Sharma (at Flipkart) suggests in your dispute resolution roundtable (Breaking bottlenecks) that our system is still one of the best. I disagree with him.

As for your survey of law firm billing rates, I applaud the firms that have given you their rates and agree with your observation about the need for transparency. The big 10 or 15 law firms do not disclose their rates, but they should as it is only right.
