Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has advised Ares Management Corporation on establishing the Japan Logistics Development Partners V Funds (JDP V fund), raising around JPY612 billion (USD3.9 billion) when it closed in August 2026.

The transaction makes it the largest closed-end institutional fundraising to date for Ares Real Estate, which is the operating platform for the asset management company.

Ares Management Corporation said the JDP V fund drew commitments from a diverse global investor base, including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies, financial institutions and other institutional investors throughout North America, Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East.

The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, a founding investor in the JDP fund series, committed JPY150 billion in equity.

The Simpson Thacher team comprised partners Adam Furber, co-head of the Asia offices and head of the Asia investment funds practice, Michelle Cheh, Tony Liu, Michael Ceulen and Jasmine Hay. It also included registered foreign lawyers Jean-Baptiste Rioual and Ysabel Cubos, associates Dave Chan, Jocelyn Hui, Mai Kristofferson, Yuhei Watanabe, Tova Pfeffer and Jacob Chefitz, and transaction manager Iris Li.

Ares Management Corporation said the JDP V fund would mainly invest in the development of modern logistics facilities in major Japanese cities, including Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya.
