Offshore law firm Carey Olsen hired James Noble as partner to lead the development of the firm’s litigation, insolvency and restructuring offering in Asia. It also hired Amelia Tan, an associate, to the team.

Noble, specializing in British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Cayman Islands law, was most recently the managing partner of the Singapore office of Harneys, an offshore law firm.

Noble has nearly 20 years of experience in high-value shareholder litigation, cross-border enforcement, insolvency, disputes (commercial, trust and estate) and asset recovery. He acts in high-profile and leading market cases, particularly in connection with Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE) listed companies. He has been based in Asia since 2012; first in Hong Kong and then Singapore since 2018.

Tan, a BVI-qualified lawyer, is well versed in corporate disputes, shareholder related litigation, insolvency and restructuring matters. Tan was previously a senior associate at Shook Lin & Bok, working on international arbitration, corporate and shareholder litigation, trade and commodities disputes, and insolvency-related matters. She is also an active member of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation.

The addition of a litigation division in Carey Olsen’s Singapore office builds on the existing corporate and finance practice in Carey Olsen’s growing Asia presence. In June, the firm launched a corporate practice in Hong Kong to complement the firm’s existing dispute resolution and insolvency practice, and followed that by adding Bermuda law capabilities with the relocation of Henry Tucker and Kyle Masters.
