The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, through a circular dated 17 September, has issued a clarification on whether salaries paid by a company to regular and volunteer corporate social responsibility (CSR) staff can be factored into CSR project costs as part of CSR expenditure. In a circular dated 18 June, the ministry had specifically clarified that salaries paid to CSR staff and volunteers could be considered CSR expenditure.
