The Hong Kong Corporate Counsel Association (HKCCA) has developed a popular informal series for speakers to relay personal journeys with its members. Recently it hosted Meet the General Counsel, where GCs of well-known companies including Brett Graham from Morgan Stanley and Gill Meller from MTR Corporation, shared their personal experiences with members in a “fireside chat” format.

Another chat in the series, Leveraging the Law, was held in collaboration with Latham and Watkins’ Women Enriching Business, where HKCCA members explored the post-legal careers of women who had transitioned to NGOs and entrepreneurship.

Speakers included Su-Mei Thompson, of The Women’s Foundation (Hong Kong government), Christine Loh, Hong Kong undersecretary for the environment, and Laurie Goldberg, founder of AmeriCraft Imports, an importer and distributor of craft beer and spirits in Hong Kong. Goldberg also hosted a beer tasting, showcasing craft beers that won her company the Best Beer Importer award at Hong Kong’s International Beer Awards. Upcoming events include seminars on protecting your IP in China, cyber threats, and Korean financial regulations.
The HKCCA was established in March 2003 as the pioneer association representing in-house lawyers in Hong Kong, and boasts more than 800 members. In addition to organizing educational seminars for members to meet their continuing legal educational requirements, the association focuses on exclusive networking events such as bi-annual dinner cruises around Hong Kong’s iconic Victoria Harbour.
