HSA absorbs litigation firm
HSA Advocates (HSA) has taken over the practice of Atman Law Partners and appointed managing partner Chinmay Mirji as a partner at the firm’s Bengaluru office. Mirji joins HSA with senior associate Sridevi Raghu and associates Vaishali Shah and Charitha V.
Atman focuses on corporate advisory, litigation and real estate work. Mirji has more than 13 years of experience and has been actively involved in negotiations and transaction advisory roles, in diverse corporate, M&A and investment transactions covering the entire spectrum of real estate development, ranging from initial investments, through project development and eventual divestment.
“Chinmay and his colleagues add an important dimension to our practice, not just in Bengaluru but nationally and especially in southern India,” said HSA founding partner Hemant Sahai.
JSA hires Corp partner
J Sagar Associates (JSA) has appointed Maneesh Upadhyay as partner in the firm’s Mumbai office. Upadhyay joins from DSK Legal, where he was a partner. He has worked at the firm since December 2008.
Upadhyay focusses on corporate law and regulatory services, which comprises company law, foreign exchange laws, contract and employment laws including recruitment, processes, exits, and managing workforce transitions as part of corporate restructuring.

He has advised Indian promoters and foreign multinationals on diverse corporate transactions including private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and joint ventures. He also has extensive experience in advising startup companies on corporate law and regulatory issues, from early stage to operations, funding and exit.
Promotion at IndusLaw
IndusLaw promoted principal associate Aditi Verma Thakur to partner in its Bengaluru office. Thakur specializes in intellectual property (IP) law and her practice involves advising and strategizing on IP protection, enforcement and management requirements.
She previously worked in the Mumbai office of Krishna & Saurastri Associates and the Bengaluru office of Krishnamurthy & Co. “Aditi was already practically running the IP prosecution practice by herself needing little supervision and this is a natural progression for her,” said senior partner Suneeth Katarki.
Thakur has served as a guest faculty at National Academy of Legal Studies and Research, Global Institute of Intellectual Property and Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
IndusLaw has 28 partners and over 120 associates across its offices in Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
Luthra on CSR committee
Rajiv Luthra, founder and managing partner of L&L Partners, has been appointed to the High Level Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).
The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of MCA secretary Injeti Srinivas to review the existing framework and formulate the roadmap for a coherent policy on corporate social responsibility.
Luthra is the only private practice lawyer on the committee. His role will include recommending guidelines for enforcement of CSR provisions and suggesting measures for adequate monitoring and evaluation of CSR by companies.
CAM gains disputes partner
Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) appointed Omar Ahmad as a disputes partner in the firm’s Delhi office. Ahmad joins from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, where he was a principal associate since May 2015.
Ahmad has more than eight years of experience on a variety of commercial disputes. He has represented clients from various sectors in domestic and international arbitrations seated outside India. Ahmad joined Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co’s Delhi office in May 2010.
