The Indian government has extended full customs duty exemptions on critical petrochemical products to protect the public’s interest and domestic industry due to the conflict in Iran and Lebanon, West Asia, resulting in global trade and supply chain disruptions.

The official gazette notification came into force on 2 April 2026 and the temporary exemption will be valid till 30 June 2026.

The Indian government issued the exemption notification under section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962. It applies to 40 products listed in the announcement that are used in sectors dependent on petrochemical feedstock. The exemption is expected to bring relief to dependent sectors and consumers.

The temporary measure aims to ease the pressure on sectors using these products and maintain stability in the domestic industry.

Affected sectors include plastics, packaging, textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, automotive components and other manufacturing segments. Essentially, all industries dependent on petrochemical feedstock, and intermediaries are expected to benefit as well from the exemption.
