Shruti Sodhi, the former chief compliance officer at Aircel, has set up Word & Law, a firm that provides niche general counsel services to companies. “In terms of the idea, I had to think long and hard and create a ‘sweet spot’ for being different such that there’s a new market for it and it coexists with the legal universe,” she told India Business Law Journal.

Sodhi is joined by three unidentified lawyers who were still making the transition to Word & Law.

Asked why she decided to start her own venture, Sodhi replied: “My journey as a lawyer over the past 20 years has had very distinct phases of (a) private practice, (b) in-house general counsel and CXO [chief experience officer] roles … I did want to up my game and [take on] the next challenge … Coming into my own seemed to be the most natural way to commence phase three of my career.”

Sodhi said she was “pleasantly surprised” by the “overwhelming” response to her service offerings and looked forward to exciting times ahead.

“I am truly enjoying what we have set out to create,” she said. “The vision is as simple as the name Word & Law. We endeavour to partner with our clients, support our counsel and advise them with simple and effective tools for them to implement. In this process, if I am able to effectively resolve their legal issues with quality advice and set up a robust legal framework for them, I’ll be happy.”
