Commerce & Finance Law Offices has opened an office in Xi’an, marking the implementation of its strategic expansion into the northwest China market.
Following the opening of its Guangzhou office in July, Xi’an becomes the firm’s 13th office globally.
Feng Yu, managing partner of the Xi’an office, told China Business Law Journal: “Commerce & Finance’s decision to establish a presence in Xi’an reflects our focus on the strategic opportunities arising from the Belt and Road Initiative and China’s westward opening-up. The new office fills a gap in the firm’s legal services network in northwest China and brings its capabilities in capital markets, cross-border investment and financing, and commercial dispute resolution to the region.”
Feng said Xi’an, the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, remained an important hub connecting eastern and western China as well as the country’s north and south. “The Xi’an office also has an important role to play in establishing a strong foothold in northwest China and extending our reach into surrounding areas,” he said.
“We will put down deep roots in Shaanxi province and draw on the resources of our headquarters and offices across the country to serve the region’s key industries, the transformation of state-owned enterprises and companies’ cross-border expansion needs.”
Feng added, “The Xi’an office will continue to attract outstanding legal talent and develop into a foreign-related legal services hub that is based in northwest China and oriented towards Central Asia. Through our legal expertise, we aim to support the high-quality development of northwest China.”
Before joining Commerce & Finance, Feng was a partner in the Xi’an office of Grandall Law Firm, focusing on government and public affairs and mineral resources. He has served as legal counsel to institutions, companies and individuals, including the Shaanxi provincial government, author Jia Pingwa, the Shaanxi Writers Association, Northwest Nonferrous Geological and Mining Group, Shaanxi Gold Group and Bank of China’s Shaanxi branch.
The Xi’an office’s partners include Zhang Longlong, who was also previously a partner at Grandall’s branch in the same city. His practice covers banking and finance, corporate operational risk management, corporate bankruptcy and restructuring, and criminal defence in economic crime cases.
The Xi’an office would advise regional clients across areas, including capital markets, dispute resolution, investment and M&A, corporate compliance, intellectual property and international trade, said the firm’s press release.
The office is located on the 52nd floor of Zhonghui Life Insurance Centre, Greenland Centre Tower B, 11 Jinye Road, High-tech District, Xi’an.
