European law firm Fieldfisher announced its latest alliance with Chinese firm JS Partners, creating another Swiss verein combination in China’s legal market that hopes to assist investors looking to plant capital overseas.

“Through this merger, Fieldfisher will be able to provide a one-stop full service to Chinese clients that would like to invest abroad,” Zhou Zhaofeng, the managing partner of Fieldfisher in Beijing and previously the managing partner of JS Partners, told China Business Law Journal.

Zhou Zhaofeng and Bai BaoenBai Baoen, a Fieldfisher partner who also moved from JS Partners, added: “We will also be able to help European clients on China-related matters, which may benefit them with added value, and broaden the service spectrum of our firm as a whole.”

Since the alliance was formed, the new law firm has adopted “斐石” as its Chinese name, and “Fieldfisher” as its English brand.

Fieldfisher was established in 1835 and has 14 offices across Europe, China and the US. The firm is “very ambitious in China”, said Zhou, and will have joint marketing activities with Fieldfisher’s European colleagues to promote the practice in China.

“We have already run some joint pitches and so far the result is very positive,” said Bai, adding that Fieldfisher is planning to open more offices across China to further tap its advantage in this regard.
