Sambhav Ranka, a former senior associate at Nishith Desai Associates, moved to IC Legal as a partner on 1 October. He joins the firm’s financial services team.
Ranka began his career at London law firm Morgan Walker Solicitors in 2006, working there for a year before joining Nishith Desai Associates, where he practised for almost seven years in the corporate, securities and funds department. He brings experience in private equity, M&A and investment funds.

Ranka said the decision to leave Nishith Desai Associates was fuelled by a desire to move forward and “do something of my own”. He told India Business Law Journal that IC Legal was “the perfect blend of being the right size and focusing on the right areas where there is enough traction and opportunity to make it big”.
Ranka is IC Legal’s seventh partner. His appointment takes the team to 27 lawyers across two offices in Mumbai.
Recruitment is high on the firm’s agenda as it aims to tally 35 lawyers by the end of 2015. It recently selected two graduates from National Law University Jodhpur to join its ranks and intends to take on more new graduates and senior lawyers in the coming months.
