Awapatent hires chief to oversee new HK and Beijing operations

European intellectual property (IP) consultancy firm Awapatent has appointed Lim Ai-leen as the CEO and principal counsel of its Asian arm, coinciding with the February opening of its Hong Kong and Beijing offices.

Lim, a Hong Kong and UK solicitor who is also admitted as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore, will manage AWA Asia, Awapatent’s newly registered firm in Hong Kong and Beijing.

A team of six senior lawyers and IP professionals will join Lim in AWA Asia to guide Western clients on Asian IP issues, as well as counselling Asian clients in respect of European IP issues by collaborating with Awapatent’s global network through 14 European offices.

Previously an international partner and head of trademark portfolio management (Greater China) at Bird & Bird, Lim’s experience spans a broad range of industries including food, fast moving consumer goods, personal care, fashion, electronics, media, real estate, financial, and professional services sectors.

Hogan Lovells has recruited two new partners to join the firm’s intellectual property (IP) practice in Hong Kong from Mayer Brown JSM.

Alan Chiu handles litigation, due diligence, licensing, defamation, and privacy. He has a computer forensic background and advises on domain names, social media issues, computer security, software and cloud contracts.

Eugene Low has IP experience in Hong Kong and mainland China. He advises on gaming laws, technology licensing and disputes, copyright clearance projects, and sporting and entertainment contracts and projects.
